Ceramic fiber module is an excellent high temperature fiber lining material for furnaces and kilns. It is made from ceramic fiber blankets. The fiber of ceramic fiber module looks like the ordinary cotton that is usually filled into our quilts, but actually it is not our daily life cotton. It is just the material made from the natural ores. Ceramic fiber cotton contains a certain amount of slag balls, so it is not suitable for use in daily life. It is mainly used in metallurgical, petrochemical and other industrial fields.
By melting in the electric furnace, the ores become molten liquid. Through spinning or blowing, the molten liquid turns into the cotton like fiber. The fiber can be made into ceramic fiber blanket, ceramic fiber board, ceramic fiber cloth, tapes and ropes. Ceramic fiber blanket is the raw material for making ceramic fiber module. The blankets are folded, compressed and made into the module which can be used as lining materials for high temperature furnaces and heating devices.
Generally, spun ceramic fiber blankets are more suitable to make ceramic fiber module, because spun fiber is stronger than blown fiber. The diameter of spun fiber is usually 3.0-5.0μm. However, the diameter of blown fiber is only 2.0-3.0μm. The length of spun fiber is usually 150-250mm. However, the length of blown fiber is only 100-200mm. The thicker diameter and longer length of the spun fiber make its strength higher than the blown one. It won’t break and tear during the process of making ceramic fiber module. The strength of the finished module is also very high.
Ceramic fiber module is white, soft, easy to cut and install. Installation of ceramic fiber module is easy and convenient. It can shorten the process of installation. The fiber does not contain any binder, so its thermal insulation property is very stable. It can be used for a long time in neutral and oxidizing conditions. Ceramic fiber module has low thermal conductivity, excellent high temperature resistant property, good mechanical shock resistance, fine wind erosion resistance and sound absorption function.
According to the classification temperature, ceramic fiber modules inChinaare divided into several types. Standard type module can withstand classification temperature of 1260℃. High purity type can withstand classification temperature of 1260℃. High aluminum type can withstand classification temperature of 1400℃. Zirconium aluminum type can withstand classification temperature of 1400℃ and the Zirconium type can withstand classification temperature of 1430℃. Their continuous working temperatures are from 1000℃ - 1350℃. The leftover bits and pieces of the module can be used as industrial furnace filling material which can improve thermal insulation effect of the furnaces or other high temperature equipments.
