Glass wool, rock wool and ceramic wool are all excellent insulation materials used in industrial fields. They have some same properties such as low thermal conductivity, excellent thermal insulation, anti-corrosion ability, etc., but they are three different kinds of insulation materials.
Glass wool, also call fiberglass wool,is a non-metallic and inorganic fiber made from melting the glass or quartz sand into molten liquid. Through a series of process, it turns into cotton-like material. It is a kind of insulation product with the advantages of low density, low thermal conductivity, heat insulation, sound absorption, corrosion resistance and chemical stability. Its temperature resistance is generally about 300~400 degrees C. Glass wool can be made into glass wool blanket, glass wool board and glass wool pipes. It is mainly used as insulation building material to bring people cool in summer and warm in winter. It is also a fireproof building material.
Rockwool adopts natural basalt rock as the raw materials. It is a kind of mineral wool. Its fluffy short fine fiber is made by blowing at high temperature. The temperature of the rockwool is about 600 degrees C. It can be made into rockwool blanket, rockwool board and rockwool pipes. The product is also mainly used as insulation building material. Its function is about the same as glass wool when it is used as the building material. Like glass wool, it is a fireproof material. Rockwool also can be used for fireproof engineering projects. If the temperature requirement is below 600 degrees C, it is recommended to use rock wool as the thermal insulation material.
Ceramic Wool, also called aluminum silicate fiber wool, is mainly made from stone clay and is a kind of fibrous lightweight refractory material which has the advantages of high temperature resistance, good thermal stability, low thermal conductivity, small heat capacity and good mechanical shock resistance. Ceramic fiber blanket and module have been widely used as furnace lining material in metallurgy, machinery, petrochemical, power generation and other industries. Ceramic wool (aluminum silicate fiber wool) can withstand continuous working temperature from 1000~1350 degrees C. It belongs to the refractory material. It is a non-toxic and odorless material which can be made into ceramic fiber blanket, module, board, paper, ceramic fiber cloth, tape, rope, etc.
