How to Decrease the Heat Shrinkage of Aluminum Silicate Fiber Blanket

As we know most substances in nature will expand while hot and contract while cold, but aluminum silicate fiber blanket (also called ceramic fiber blanket) is different. It does not expand when it is heated. On the contrary, when the temperature is too high, it will shrink. Heat shrinkage will create a gap between blankets. This will also cause trouble. If the heat shrinkage is too big, it will cause the blanket deformation or even damage. How to decrease the heat shrinkage of aluminum silicate fiber blanket? Let’s talk about this problem.

 

Purification of the raw material is an important way to decrease the heat shrinkage of aluminum silicate fiber blanket. Impurities in aluminum silicate fiber blanket (ceramic fiber blanket) will decrease the use temperature of the blanket and quicken the deformation and crystallization of the blanket. Impurities in the blanket are mainly Na2O, K2O and iron oxide. It is necessary to remove these impurities and improve the purity of raw materials so as to increase the use temperature of the blanket and slow down the speed of shrinkage. In order to increase the use temperature of the blanket, we need to screen the raw materials before production of the aluminum silicate fiber. After removing the impurities, the alumina (Al2O3) content has been increased. This can increase the use temperature of the aluminum silicate fiber (ceramic fiber blanket) and inhibit the heat shrinkage deformation of aluminum silicate fiber blanket.

 

Another way is to add some zirconia into the raw material. It is found that adding of a certain amount of zirconia into the raw materials can effectively inhibit the producing of crystallization and crystal grain of the aluminum silicate fiber blanket (ceramic fiber blanket) at high temperature and decrease the heat shrinkage rate of the ceramic fiber blanket. The use temperature of zirconia-containing aluminum silicate ceramic fiber blanket can reach up to 1350 which is higher than the use temperature of other types of ceramic fiber blankets. Because the performance of zirconia-containing ceramic fiber blanket is better than that of the high-alumina ceramic fiber blanket, production and application of zirconia-containing aluminum silicate ceramic fiber blanket have been rapidly developed.
