Ceramic fiber paper and ceramic fiber cloth are made from ceramic fiber. Their raw material is the same, but the fiber of the ceramic fiber paper is thinner than that of the ceramic fiber cloth. Both products have low thermal conductivity, high temperature resistant, thermal insulation, anti-corrosion, etc., but they have some differences between them.

First, we can distinguish both products from their appearance. Ceramic fiber cloth doesn’t look so smooth than ceramic fiber paper, because ceramic fiber cloth is a woven product. It is made from interweaving of ceramic fiber warp and weft yarn and it has an obvious woven pattern on the surface. Ceramic fiber paper is a non woven product. It is a vacuum filter forming product, so it looks smooth and there is no woven pattern at all.  

The density of ceramic fiber paper and ceramic fiber cloth is different. The density of ceramic fiber paper is only 200kg/m3, but the density of ceramic fiber cloth is 500kg/m3. Ceramic fiber cloth is heavier than ceramic fiber paper.

The thickness of both products is different. Ceramic fiber paper can be made as thin as 0.5mm and it also can be made 10mm thick. However, the thickness of ceramic fiber cloth is relatively limited. The thinnest ceramic fiber cloth is 1.6mm and the thickest cloth is 6mm.

Their tensile strength has some differences. Ceramic fiber cloth has higher strength than ceramic fiber paper, because ceramic fiber cloth is reinforced with stainless steel wire or glass fiber, besides its fiber is thicker than that of the ceramic fiber paper. Although ceramic fiber paper has certain toughness due to the addition of organic substance, it is still not as strong as the ceramic fiber cloth. Ceramic fiber paper can be torn by hands, but ceramic fiber cloth is a strong product and it can not be torn by hands.

Their applications have some differences. Ceramic fiber paper has good flexibility and plasticity, so it is easy to cut and process and usually can be made into non-metallic gasket and be used as sealing materials, thermal insulation materials, filter materials, electrical insulation materials and so on. Ceramic fiber cloth is not as flexibility as ceramic fiber paper and it is usually used as a variety of high temperature resistant, high pressure materials in harsh environment insulation fields. It can be made into fire prevention, friction and other materials.

Both products have their own characteristics. We need to choose the suitable product to use, so that we can achieve good effect.
