Fiberglass chopped strand mat is a kind of non-woven material made from fiberglass rovings which are chopped to certain length, and then randomly fall on to the conveyor belt. The chopped strands rovings are bonded together by either emulsion binder or powder binder. After drying, cooling and winding, the chopped strand mat is formed. There are two kinds of fiberglass chopped strand mats according to different types of binders. One is the fiberglass emulsion mat and the other is fiberglass powder mat. Fiberglass chopped strand mat features excellent properties of uniform roving distribution, good dimensional stability, high mechanical strength and superior chemical stability.

Fiberglass chopped strand mat is an important base material for making fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP). The mat is suitable for hand lay-up and compression molding processes. It has good compatibility with chemical resins such as polyester resin, epoxy resin, phenolic resin, etc. Fiberglass chopped strand mat has good moldability, good wet-through and fast wet-out in resins. It discharges air bubbles rapidly and can be well permeable to resins to fabricate fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP). FRP products have lightweight and high tensile strength. They are much lighter than metal products and can be used in many applications where lightweight materials are required. Their strength is almost as high as metals and can replace metals to make machine parts, cars, ships, doors, seats and so on. FRP products are widely used in construction, petrochemical industry, automobile, electrical insulation industry, marine, sports and leisure and wind energy.
