Can Ceramic Fiber Blanket Catch Fire

Although we are familiar with ceramic fiber blanket, sometimes we still doubt whether it will catch fire.  Can ceramic fibre blanket catch fire?  We doubt it because from the appearance it looks like cotton blanket.  Cotton is a plant and is easy to catch fire.  It burns at 150℃.  However, ceramic fiber blanket is made from stone clay, silicon, etc and it will not catch fire in natural environment.  Its raw materials are melting in the electric furnace at high temperature of 1600℃ and turn into molten liquid and then become ceramic fiber by special process method.  Through double needling, ceramic fiber is processed into needled blanket.


The main chemical component of ceramic fiber blanket is aluminum silicate, so it is also called aluminum silicate fiber blanket.  It can withstand classification temperature from 1260℃ – 1430℃ and the continuous working temperature from 1000℃ – 1350℃.  In order to make the blanket with high strength, ceramic fiber is required to be double needled and then formed into ceramic fiber needled blanket.  It is a kind of refractory fiber insulation material, mainly used as thermal insulation materials for high temperature industrial furnaces, high temperature pipelines and other high temperature equipments.  As a high temperature resistant material itself, the blanket won't catch fire.


Ceramic fiber blanket will not decompose naturally.  The blanket possesses melting point of 1600℃.  In nature no objects have such a high temperature.  Therefore, the blanket is very stable and is impossible to catch fire.  It can be used at continuous working temperature of more than 1000℃ without damage.  After all, its melting point is too high to catch fire at normal conditions.


Ceramic fiber blanket not only can withstand high temperature, but also has excellent anti- corrosion property.  Its chemical resistant property is very stable.  It does not react with acid, alkali or other high temperature molten metal liquid.  The blanket is a soft, elastic product with high tensile strength.  It is light in weight, easy to cut, easy to process and has many other properties.  Although ceramic fiber blanket is not afraid of fire, it is afraid of water.  So we need to store it in dry places to avoid wet and water.  When we use it, we should keep it away from rain water, vapor, etc.
