Fiberglass cloth is a kind of inorganic and nonmetallic material with excellent performance. It takes waste glass or quartz sand as the main raw material and is manufactured by high temperature melting, wire drawing, winding, weaving and other processes. The cloth has advantages of high temperature resistance, high strength, high elasticity, good corrosion resistance, etc. E-glass cloth and C-glass cloth are the main two categories of fiberglass cloth. The output of these two kinds of cloth accounts for more than 98% of the total output of glass fiber cloth in Chinese market. They are widely used in many industrial fields.

E-glass cloth and C-glass cloth have different alkali metal content. E-glass cloth contains very small amount of alkali metal, usually less than 0.8%, so we call it alkali free fiberglass cloth. C-glass cloth contains 11.9%-16.4% alkali metal. It contains more alkali metal than E-glass cloth and so we call it middle alkali fiberglass cloth.  

Alkali free fiberglass cloth (E-glass cloth) has excellent electrical insulation property. E-glass cloth 7628, 2116 and 1080 are very thin and light in weight and the most commonly used electrical grade glass fiber cloth. They are the main material for making printed circuit board. E-glass cloth also can be made into various kinds of electrical components and can be used as electrical insulation materials to wrap or cover electrical cables, electric motors and various electrical appliances. However, C-glass cloth has poor electrical insulation ability. This is because C-glass cloth contains more alkali metal which is a good electrical conductor. C-glass cloth can not be made into electrical components and also can not be used as electrical insulation materials.

E-glass cloth is very flat and smooth. Its wear resistance is better than C-glass cloth. The folding index of the E-glass cloth at room temperature is 3.66 times that of C-glass cloth. It has higher strength than C-glass cloth.

Both cloths have excellent anti-corrosion resistance property. They have very good chemical stability for resisting many chemical substances and can be made into petrochemical pipelines, storage tanks and various kinds of anti-corrosion components. They also can be used as corrosion resistant materials in petrochemical industry.

Both cloths have excellent thermal insulation property. They can be used as thermal insulation wrapping materials for hot pipeline systems and various kinds of hot equipments and can be used as sealing materials for furnace, kilns doors, etc. They also can be made into welding blankets, fireproof curtains, fireproof clothing, etc.

The prices of these two kinds of cloth have some differences. Usually the price of E-glass cloth is   higher than C-glass cloth. Customers can make a balance between the prices and the properties of both cloth and choose the suitable product to use.
