High silica cloth and ceramic fiber cloth are high temperature resistant products. They can withstand high temperature of 1000℃ or even higher than 1000℃. Both products have characteristics of excellent thermal insulation performance, low thermal conductivity, thermal shock resistance, low heat capacity, anti-corrosion resistance, long service life. They are non-toxic, harmless and environmentally friendly fibrous products. They have many common properties, but they are different products.

The chemical components between two products are different. High silica cloth contains 96% SiO2. Its soft point is close to 1700℃. It withstands continuous working temperature of 1000℃. It can be used at 1450℃ for 10 minutes and used at 1650℃ for a short time. Ceramic fiber cloth is made from ceramic fibre. Its chemical components are alumina and silicon dioxide. It usual resists continuous working temperature of 1000℃. If people need ceramic fiber cloth with temperature higher than 1000℃, they can choose the cloth containing zirconium.

Ceramic fiber is a short fiber product that needs to be strengthened and toughened by other materials. It is usually reinforced with stainless steel wire or glass fiber. It contains about 15% organic fiber, because the ceramic fiber is too short and it is not easy to weave it into cloth without the organic fiber. When the product is used at high temperature for the first time, the organic fiber will burn off. The cloth will appear smoke, but this will not affect the property of the cloth. However, high silica cloth is made from long fiber. It does not need to be reinforced by other materials, so it will not appear smoke when it is used at high temperature.

The thickness of the high silica cloth and ceramic fiber cloth is different. High silica cloth can be made very thin. The thickness of the cloth is 0.1mm - 1.3mm. However, the thickness of ceramic fibre cloth is 2mm – 6mm.  High silica cloth is woven from continuous high silica yarn and then treated with hydrochloric acid. After treatment, the silicon dioxide of the cloth will be 96%, but the cloth is relatively brittle. In addition, high silica cloth is more expensive than the ceramic fiber cloth.
