There are various kinds of thermal insulation materials. Today, we are talking about three commonly used insulation products.
The main raw material of aluminum silicate fiber is stone clay and a small amount of other ores. Aluminum silicate fiber is also known as ceramic fiber, because the main composition of ceramic fiber is alumina which is the main component of porcelain. Through electrical resistance furnace or electrical arc furnace melting, the raw materials become molten liquid and then turn into fiber. If zirconia or chromium oxide is added into the raw material, the working temperature of the fiber can be increased. Aluminum silicate fiber is a new type of lightweight refractory material which has the advantages of high temperature resistance, good thermal stability, small heat capacity, good resistance to mechanical vibration, etc. It can be made into aluminum silicate fiber blanket (ceramic fiber blanket), aluminum silicate fiber board, aluminum silicate fiber textiles, etc. The temperature of aluminum silicate fiber is very high. It can reach up to 1000 ℃ – 1350 ℃. Aluminum silicate fiber products can be used as furnace lining material and also can be used for other thermal insulation purpose. They are widely used in metallurgy, electric power, machinery, chemical heat equipments, etc.
Rockwool is an inorganic material. It adopts high quality basalt, dolomite or other stones as the main raw materials. After high temperature melting, it forms into artificial fiber by high speed centrifugal force. It is a kind of high-quality thermal insulation and fire protective material. Rockwool is light in weight and has thermal insulation, heat preservation, sound absorption, good chemical stability, corrosion resistance, etc. It can be processed into rockwool blanket, rockwool board and pipe. They are mainly used as insulation building material for building walls, roofs and ceilings. They also can be used as thermal insulation materials for pipelines, boilers, tanks, containers and other equipments for thermal insulation and sound absorption purpose. Rockwool can be faced with aluminum foil, glass tissue or glass cloth on one side or both sides. The operation temperature of rockwool is about 600℃.
Glass wool belongs to a category of glass fiber and is a man-made inorganic fiber. It uses waste glass as the main raw material. Through high temperature melting, the raw material forms a cotton-like shape fiber. Glass wool can maintain good insulation performance at high and low temperatures. It has good resilience, good sound absorption and noise reduction performance. Glass wool has low thermal conductivity, good thermal insulation and heat preservation, fine corrosion resistance and chemical stability. The material has a large number of tiny air pores, so that it plays the role of heat preservation and insulation, sound absorption and noise reduction and safety protection. Glass wool is mainly used as insulation building material for steel structure building and other structure houses. It can be made into glass wool blanket, glass wool board and glass wool pipe and also can be used as thermal insulation product for pipeline and equipment in electric power, petrochemical, metallurgy and other fields.
The above are the three commonly used thermal insulation materials which can replace asbestos.
