In order to develop a new type of thermal insulation material which is more environmentally friendly than the existing ceramic fiber and at the same time it possesses the same functions as the ceramic fiber, European countries and the United States began to research bio soluble fiber from 1990s. Through 20 years of persistent effect, a new type of fibrous refractory material which is called “Bio Soluble Fiber” has been created. Since this fiber came out, it has been constantly improved and perfected and now it is a mature material. The fiber can be made into bio soluble fiber blanket which is the excellent material for making bio soluble fiber module. Bio soluble fiber blanket and bio soluble fiber module are mainly used as the fibrous refractory linings for furnaces and kilns. Like ceramic fiber, bio soluble fiber also can be made into a series of bio soluble fiber products such as bio soluble fiber board, paper, cloth, tape and rope which can be widely used in many industrial insulation fields.

Bio soluble fiber blanket and module are white and soft thermal insulation refractory products. From the appearance, they have no difference from ceramic fiber blanket and module. But their chemical compositions are different. Bio soluble fiber has the main chemical components of SiO2, MgO, CaO, but the main compositions of ceramic fiber are Al2O3 and SiO2. Due to the calcium magnesium structure of bio soluble fiber, it is more environmentally friendly than ceramic fiber. Its fibers stay in the human body for a short time and can be dissolved in human body fluids easily, so it is no harm to human health. Bio soluble fiber blanket and module have the advantages of lightweight, low thermal conductivity, excellent thermal insulation, good resistance to thermal shock, energy saving, etc. They are the excellent fibrous refractory lining material for furnaces and kilns.

In China, the classification temperature of bio soluble fiber blanket and module is generally 1100℃ and the continuous working temperature is 1000℃. This continuous working temperature is similar to that of Standard Type of ceramic fiber blanket and module, but it is lower than other types of ceramic fiber blankets and modules. By adjusting the ratio of SiO2, MgO, CaO, bio soluble fiber blanket and module with higher temperature can be achieved, but the product prices are higher.  

Today, people pay more and more attention to environmental protection. Bio soluble fiber blankets and modules are undoubtedly the ideal fibrous refractory lining material for industrial furnace, kilns and other thermal insulation equipments. With the continuous development of ceramic fiber derived products, we believed that bio soluble fiber products will continue to make further improvement. Environmental protective bio soluble blanket and module is the development direction of fibrous refractory lining materials.
