Ceramic fiber blankets have been more and more widely used in thermal insulation areas. According to different production technology, they can be divided into two kinds of blankets. One is the spun ceramic fiber blanket and the other is the blown ceramic fiber blanket. Today we would like to introduce the differences between these two kinds of blankets and help our customers choose the suitable blanket they require.

The length and diameter of the fibers are different. The fiber of the spun ceramic fiber blanket is generally 150-250mm long and the fiber of the blown ceramic fiber blanket is generally 100-200mm long. The diameter of the spun ceramic fiber is generally 3.0-5.0 micron and the diameter of the blown fiber is generally 2.0-3.0 micron. Spun ceramic fiber blanket has longer and thicker fiber than blown ceramic fiber blanket.

The thicker and longer fiber of the spun ceramic fiber blanket makes the blanket stronger than the blown ceramic fiber blanket. In the application of waste heat boiler insulation and other vertical layer insulation, large and strong thermal insulation materials are required. Due to its higher tensile strength and more durable ability, spun ceramic fiber blanket is more suitable to be used in this area.

Spun ceramic fiber blankets can be made into ceramic fiber modules. Because of their high strength and durability, they will not break and tear during the process of folding and compressing of the modules. Spun ceramic fiber blankets make the modules very tight and not to be damaged when they are used as refractory furnace lining material. However, blown fiber blanket is not as strong as the spun ceramic fiber blanket. It will easily break and tear if they are used for making modules. The quality of the module will directly affect the quality of the furnace lining.

Both products have low thermal conductivity, excellent thermal insulation, resistance to thermal shock and energy-saving properties. Since the blown ceramic fiber blanket has thinner and shorter fiber, it is more suitable to be used for secondary processing of other ceramic fiber products, for example, it is suitable to be used to make ceramic fiber boards, because thinner and shorter fiber can be crushed easily and blended uniformly with other materials such as binding agents, additives, etc.

Spun ceramic fiber blanket has more output than blown ceramic fiber blanket. Its production capacity is 2-4 times larger than that of the blown ceramic fiber blanket for a single production line. There are more than 200 relatively large ceramic fiber manufacturers in China. Most of them adopt spun ceramic fiber blanket technology. Today 90% of ceramic fiber blankets produced in China are spun ceramic fiber blanket. The biggest difference between spun ceramic fiber blanket and blown ceramic fiber blanket is that spun ceramic fiber blanket is suitable to be used in more fields and can solve more problems.
