Application of Ceramic Fiber in Metallurgical Industry

Ceramic fiber is also called aluminum silicate fiber, the main chemical components of which are alumina (aluminum oxide) and silicon dioxide. Its products are mainly used as refractory linings with the advantages of light weight, high temperature resistance, low thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, thermal shock resistance and mechanical shock resistance. The fiber can be made into ceramic fiber blanket, ceramic fiber module, ceramic fiber blanket, etc. which are extensively used in metallurgical, petrochemical and other industrial fields.

  

Ceramic fiber blanket, module and board are often used as lining materials for metallurgical furnaces. They are much lighter than the traditional refractory bricks. The light weight ceramic fiber lining materials can greatly reduce the furnace steel structure load to protect the furnace shell. Ceramic fiber lining materials have excellent corrosion resistance property, so they can protect the furnace shells from corrosion. Using the ceramic fiber as the furnace lining can extend the service life of the furnace.


In order to improve operational efficiency, it is necessary to choose the suitable lining materials for heat insulation of the furnace. Ceramic fiber blanket, module and board are the superior thermal insulation linings for high temperature furnaces such as heat treatment furnace, iron making furnace, steel ladle cover, heating furnace, casting furnace, electric furnace, steel making furnace, etc. Ceramic fiber is a porous fiber with low density and low thermal conductivity. It can preserve the heat and reduce the heat loss, so that it can effectively decrease the energy consumption and save the cost of production.


Ceramic fiber lining materials are particularly suitable for intermittent heating furnace. The temperature of the intermittent furnace needs to rise and falls frequently. This will use more fuel and waste energy. Ceramic fiber linings absorb less heat, shorten the heating time of the furnace and can control the energy consumption during the operation. Therefore they can greatly reduce the energy consumption.


Ceramic fiber has excellent thermal shock resistance and mechanical vibration resistance. It is a kind of flexible material and can withstand severe temperature fluctuation and mechanical vibration. 

  

The installation of ceramic fiber blanket, module and board are simple. They can be installed to the furnace wall quicker than the installation of the other traditional thermal insulation materials. This can shorten the construction time of the furnace and improve work efficiency. The linings don’t need to be baked after installation.
